“82% of Hogwarts Legacy Console Sales Were Made on PS5. According to data reported by GamesIndustry, Hogwarts Legacy tops the charts of the UK’s boxed charts, beating out God of War Ragnarok and FIFA 23 (last week’s #1 holder). 82% of the sales were made on PS5, with just 18% on Xbox Series X|S. We won’t see any data on sales from the PS4 and Xbox One until the game launches on these platforms on April 4. Sony’s exclusive marketing deal with Warner Bros meant that PS5 owners would receive exclusive content that won’t arrive on other platforms until April 10. That being said, last year’s release of Elden Ring saw 80% of UK physical sales in its first week coming from PS5 and PS4, so sales disparity is likely due to console popularity rather than exclusive content. Of course, we haven’t got data for digital sales yet, which could balance the scales towards Xbox Series X|S.”

Reliable news reporter Jeff Grubb hinted in his latest Game Mess podcast episode that a new PlayStation State of Play is due to air later this month. However, he advised listeners to keep their expectations in check as the games featured will be of a more “low-key” nature.

Jeff Grubb also stated that Sony may be saving some big announcements for a pre-E3 showcase, meaning that Sony may indeed be skipping the physical E3 show this year, as recently rumored. As a side note, Grubb emphasized the difference between a State of Play and a PlayStation Showcase, explaining that the former focuses on small updates and specific games, while the latter is where Sony unveils all of its biggest guns.”

A recent patent filed by Sony suggests the company may be looking at implementing a picture-in-picture mode for the PS5 to show videos alongside gameplay. Throughout the lifespan of the console, Sony has consistently looked for ways to improve the user experience for the newest PlayStation hardware. Patents have suggested the developer is working on a wide array of improvements with everything ranging from sign language menu navigation to in-game music recommendations reportedly in the works. Now, a new patent could be a major boon to players needing help in their games.”

“According to Jeff Grubb, Sony is now planning to host a new State of Play event in the near future. Although this event is expected to be smaller in scale. There is talk of a larger event in plans for June, potentially a PlayStation Showcase. In the first half of the year, Sony is expected to focus on their new virtual reality headset and third-party providers. The PS5 roadmap has been relatively sparse thus far, with only the announcement of Spider-Man 2 for the fall. If Sony wants to drive demand for the PlayStation 5 this year, they will need to have more to offer.
